Prayer changes everything and we are proud that we are inspired by our faith and we gladly share in the blessings that allow us to service the community.
It's All Connected
- Homelessness and hunger are deeply interconnected. Many families in Lancaster and Palmdale face impossible choices between paying rent and putting food on the table.
- 14.2 million households experienced food insecurity (2019-2021)
- 9.6% of California households have low or very low food security
- Over 5 million Californians rely on SNAP (food stamps) to survive
- 23% of Lancaster’s population lives below the poverty line
- 21% of Palmdale’s population lives below the poverty line
- SNAP provides 9 meals for every 1 meal provided by food banks
The Root Causes
- Skyrocketing housing costs: Rents that were once $600-700 now exceed $2,000 per month, pushing families out of housing
- Economic hardship: Cited by 54% of newly homeless individuals as the primary reason for losing housing
- High unemployment: Limited job opportunities in the region create financial instability
- Extreme weather: Desert conditions with 100°F+ summers and freezing winters endanger those living outdoors
- Lack of basic necessities: Many unhoused individuals lack access to clean water, healthcare, and sanitation
- Insufficient affordable housing: Only 300 permanent supportive housing units created in 6 years, while 6,672 people need housing
